ABOUT ME

My name is Kristin Hyde and  I have an insatiable need for two things in my life...a love for being creative and a love for the use of colour.
Colour energizes me- it feeds my soul. I’m in my happy place when I’m creating or am surrounded by colour.
I’m an intuitive and mixed media and textile artist with an interest in  Art Jewellery- Particularly silversmithing.

I’ve always dabbled in some form of creative activity -I’m mainly a self taught artist, I love colour and texture and enjoy experimenting with many mediums, especially  Acrylics and resin, I have a love for things that are Tactile.
I also love textiles, I have been  a Resin artist for eight years and been Felting for 7 years. After taking a class on basic felting I was hooked.  I have spent many hours since then developing my own style. I love taking fibres and creating an original piece of wearable art by tufting, wetting and rolling.
I also enjoyed  eco-dying and printing.

Taking nature’s bounty and producing beautiful patterns from leaves, flowers and other natural products.
I usually print on Silk, merino, linen or woollen(felted) Items.

Originally growing up in Wellington- Auckland has been my home for the past 37 years.

I live at the Bombay Hills on the outskirts of Auckland where my creative space, with a rural outlook is surrounded by trees, a stream and all sorts of various bird life. It’s my sanctuary, from where I draw much of my inspiration.
In early 2020, after having the holiday of my lifetime in The Bahamas with  my  oldest son on his yacht, I decided to make the leap and left my career as an International  Flight attendant, (a career which had  spanned over 40 years)  to follow my passion and become  a full Time Artist.

Although Covid has changed the world and the plans of many, I have no regrets and am busier and happier now than ever before.
Painting and being Creative make me happy- I create to express my  emotions and unlock  untold stories that evoke memories. I paint to make others happy and to make them smile - to escape to another world if only for a little while. I create from my heart.
To be able to work at what is your passion is  a real privilege.

I feel very humbled to know that my Jewellery, Textiles and Art  have found homes worldwide.
